Well Happy New Year! And Welcome to 2010…and the new decade!!
It’s crazy to think that we are almost halfway through this academic year, but that doesn’t mean it’s nearly all over, quite the opposite…it’s only just beginning!!
The next six months promises to be the biggest and best yet for the SU with upcoming events and campaigns like the Student Union Elections, our Town Takeover event against top up on tuition fees, our massive voter registration drive in anticipation for the general election…as well as providing all our day to day services that are here to make your life better.
But let’s think about the here and now. After a lovely few weeks off me and the rest of the Student Affairs Committee went away on a mid-year residential, 3 days to look back at the last six months; what we did well, what we could have done better and what we enjoyed…you know the deal. Anyway we had big plans to drag up loads of staff members to it but unfortunately it snowed. A lot!
So we got snowed in. But don’t worry, we spent our time well….we built a snowman! Thought you might like to see so I’ve attached a picture of the newest SAC member. Quite impressive if I don’t say so myself. Despite the snow we had a good review of the past few months and have all come back full of renewed energy and enthusiasm for the big challenges that lay ahead of us.
I’m sure you’re all having issues with the snow just like me (I’m told I look a bit like Bambi on ice) but the university and union is still open for business. All of our services are set to fully open again on the 11th of January and we’ve turned the heating up a little bit to get ready for you lot coming back (only joking, were a green union!)
And finally, to all those students packing up crimbo presents and their thermals and on their way back to Preston, here is another new year resolution for you…“GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR SU!” Never think you’ve missed your chance to get involved with the SU…we’re ehre all year round. From our up and coming campaigns to joining a society, there is still so much you can do. And remember…it maybe January and cold outside, but it’s warm and full of energy in our SU building!
What a cheesy way to end. But I like it!
Take care UCLan students; it’s an iced jungle out there
Much BWE love x
